Spiral Charm Necklace Tutorial

This Spiral Charm Necklace features natural beads from Happy Mango Beads. The main focus is the spiral charm and the chunky natural turquoise beads.You can whip up this necklace pretty quickly. Then you can whip up some more for your friends!Materials and Tools Needed:

Natural Turquoise Nugget Beads (From Happy Mango Beads)
Mixed Gemstone Beads 8 mm (From Happy Mango Beads)
16 gauge black copper coated wire
20 gauge silver wire
Chain (I used a vintage chain I got at a jewelry sale. It's already finished. You'll need a clasp if you don't have a finished chain.)
Jump rings.

Step #1Cut a 3" piece of the 16 gauge black wire. (I cut 4", but I ended up cutting off an inch.)You can use any wire you like. 20 gauge wire would be fine, too.Note:The next steps show how to make a spiral. This video shows in general how to make a spiral.Step #2Hold the wire at the tip in round nose pliers. The wire should be even with the top of the pliers, but not poking through. (You should be able to run your finger over the top.)Step #3Twist the wire around the barrel of the round nose pliers. Go as far as you can go, readjust your wrist and complete the loop.Step #4Hold the loop you just made in chain nose pliers.Step #5Push the wire up and around the first loop. Readjust the pliers and continue to go around the loop.Step #6Bend the wire back so it's spaced in the middle of the spiral.Step #7Trim off any excess wire. Here's where I cut off about one inch.Step #8Make a loop on top to create a charm.Step #9Cut 5 inches of silver wire.Step #10Create a spiral headpin (click on the link above for a video tutorial.)Step #11Place 2 of the natural turquoise beads onto the wire.Step #12Complete a wire wrapped loop on top to create a bead dangle.(If you need help with this, see my video tutorial How to Make a Bead Dangle.)Step #13Cut 2 pieces of 3 inch wire and make spiral headpins with them.Step #14Make bead dangles with 2 of the mixed gemstone beads.Step #15Open a few jump rings. Click here for a video of the proper way to open them.Step #16Using a jump ring, add the turquoise dangle to the middle of the chain.Step #17Place the 2 smaller bead dangles on a jump ring and add to the chain next to the turquoise dangle.Step #18Using a jump ring, add the spiral charm to the other side of the turquoise dangle.Step #19Add a clasp to your chain.Step #20 Enjoy your necklace!
