Earthy Wood and Turquoise Necklace Tutorial
I love nature. I love to be in nature. Waterfalls are my favorite, but trees I also think trees are pretty great, too!I know that being in nature is a big key for creativity and inspiration. I love the colors in nature (isn't it cool how nature is about to put colors together in such a beautiful way?)Because of this, I also love using natural materials in jewelry and pieces that remind me of nature. This necklace uses wooden buttons and turquoise beads and brown cord (it's fake leather, but it's still earthy.) The colors remind me of things I see out in nature. You can use the same techniques and make a different necklace with a completely different inspiration, or maybe other colors you find beautiful in nature.Let's get started!
Materials and Tools:
- Wood buttons ( I used 2 of these)
- Turquoise beads (I used 3 of these)
- Some sort of cord, I used some fake leather cord.
- 18 gauge wire (half-hard, round)
- Wire cutters
- Round nose pliers
- Chain nose pliers
- Another paid of pliers
- Scissors to cut your cord
Step #1Cut a piece of wire a few inches longer on each than the button you're using.Step #2
Loosely bend the wire in half.Step #3
Slide the wire in the holes of the buttons. If your button has 4 holes, just use 2 holes across from each other.Step #4
Fold out the wire, kind of like when you open a brad.Step #5
Bend the wire let in the photo.Step #6
Hold one end of the wire in round nose pliers.Step #7
Wrap the wire around a barrel of the pliers and between the button and the pliers.Straighten the loop.
Step #8
Hold that loop with your chain nose pliers. Wrap the wire around a few times. Cut off any excess wire.
Step #9
Repeat to the other side.Step #10Make 2 of these.Step #11
Cut another piece of wire that's a few inches longer on each end than the bead you're using.Hold the wire in round nose pliers.Step #12
Just like in steps #7 - 8, make a wire wrapped loop.Step #13
Slide the bead on and then repeat a wire wrapped loop on the other end.
Step #14Repeat to make three of these bead links.Step #15
Use cord to tie together each of the links. I just made knots and cut off the excess, leaving however much of the cord you would like.
Step #16
Tie the cord to each end to finish the necklace. You can either leave it loose and just tie it with a bow to put it on.Or you can do a couple sliding knots.
Wear your new earthy necklace! I've been wearing mine a lot!
