ECT TV Episode 75: Stacked Button Necklace Tutorial
In this episode of Emerging Creatively Tutorials Television (ECT TV), learn how to make a stacked button necklace. It's a really fun way to use buttons in jewelry making. You could use beads instead.Which reminds me, don't mind me when I call the buttons beads in the video. I really think of them the same way!Watch the video tutorial:Step-by-Step Photo Instructions:(This is the same tutorial, but with photos.)
Materials and Tools:
- Buttons (you can find some buttons in my Etsy shop here.) I used 9 different colors and sizes.
- 20 gauge, half-hard, round wire
- Chain
- 4 jump rings
- Clasp
- Wire cutters
- Round nose pliers
- Chain nose pliers
- Bent nose pliers
Step #1Cut a piece of wire about 3 inches longer than the stack of buttons you've chosen.Hold the wire in round nose pliers 1 1/4 inches from the top.Step #2
Wrap the wire around the pliers to form a loop.Step #3
Hold the loop in chain nose pliers. It's off center and we want to center it on the top of the wire. Wrap around once with the shorter wire and pull the longer wire out straight.Step #4
Now wrap around two more times.Step #5
Slide your buttons on. I started with the smallest and got increasingly larger in the middle and then back down to small again for my pendant. You might use all the same button. Just remember that you'll only really see the outside edges of the buttons.Step #6
Hold the wire about 1/4 inch above the top button. Then follow Steps #2 - #4 to complete a wire wrapped loop on this side as well.Step #7
Use jump rings to attach chain to each side of the button piece and then to add the clasp to the chain.
