Creativity = Freedom
Art, craft, jewelry-making, scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, etc. are all techniques for a larger goal for me. It matters not which medium, which supplies, which materials I use. I want to express myself. I want to use these things to calm my mind for the time I am using them and achieve a sort of contentment that I do not achieve in any other way.I may use one technique with the “wrong” supply or mix several supplies in different ways. I use old things to make new jewelry, I add paint, fabric and jewelry charms to my scrapbook. I have never been interested in the “right” or “correct” way to do things; I'm interested only in the way that takes me on the path I want to go.
I’m self-taught on many things. Mom-taught on others. Teacher-taught on yet others. I have read books, researched the internet and taken classes. I have asked my mom to teach me, asked artists how they do things, gleaned inspiration from looking at art. If I don’t know how to do something that I want to do, I’ll figure it out one way or another.Nothing will stop my creativity and passion, my enjoyment, my joy, my contentment, my calmness, my freedom.Crafting, sewing, making jewelry, scrapbooking, etc., these are my diversions from the hard parts of life outside of my worktable. Things are rough, times are hard, many of us working for people we would rather not. But my craft table, that is my own world. It is my peace and my freedom.No one can tell me I’m doing something wrong. No one can tell me what to do at all!
