Upcycled Telephone Wire Bracelet Tutorial

Telephone Wire Tutorial Tools and MaterialsTools and Materials:

  • Telephone wire
  • 2 end crimps
  • 2 - 7 mm jump rings
  • Lobster Clasp
  • Wire Cutters
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Needle nose or chain nose pliers - 2 pair

Step #1Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #1Measure around your wrist and cut off a piece of telephone wire.  Remember that you will be adding a lobster clasp on the end when you are deciding on the size.I like my bracelets a little loose, so I measured around my wrist and cut the exact length.  When I add the clasp the bracelet will be the size I like.Step #2Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #2You'll notice looking at the end of the telephone wire there are 4 different colors of smaller wires inside the main tube.  We're going to free them and use the colorful wire. (Other types of telephone wires or power cords may have different colors.)Alternatively, you could use the actual telephone wire as is without cutting off the outside wire.  It's a cool look, too.  Make sure you get end crimps that are large enough to accommodate the size.

Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #2

I used an old pair of wire cutters to cut just the outside casing of the telephone wire.  Scissors would probably work, too, if you have a small size.  Basically, use whatever works for you.

Step #3

Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #2After I got the cut started, I used 1 pair of pliers to hold the inside wires while I peeled off the outside casing with another pair of pliers.Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #2This is what the wires look like once they are free!Step #4Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #4Lay 2 or 3 of the wires in the end crimp.  I started with 3, but they didn't all fit and ended up using 2 wires instead.Step #5Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #5Fold the end crimp over using pliers.  Fold one side and then fold the other side on top.  (You'll see here that the yellow wire just wasn't going to fit, but I tried.)Repeat on the other side of the wires.Step #6Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #6Add a jump ring and lobster clasp to one end.Need help opening a jump ring?  Click here for my How to Properly Open and Close Jump Rings video.Step #7Telephone Wire Tutorial Step #7Add just a jump ring to the other end.(Note:  if you need your bracelet a little longer, just add more jump rings here.)Step #8Telephone Wire Tutorial CompletedEnjoy your new telephone wire bracelet!Ideas for customization:

  • Make several and wear them all at once.
  • Before you put the 2nd end crimp on, add charms and other dangles to the bracelet.
  • Make it with just one wire, or get larger end crimps and make them with lots of wires all on one bracelet.
  • Make a longer one for an anklet.
  • Make an even longer one for a necklace.
