How to Make a Caged Bead

How to Make a Caged Bead

Today I wanted to share my how to make a caged bead video tutorial with you.

You can use caged beads to add an extra special element to your jewelry designs or use the caged bead for the main focal point of the jewelry piece.

This technique is one of many (many!) jewelry skills I teach in Rediscover Your Creativity & Make Jewelry and also in the Doodle Jewelry eWorkshop (which is now available here!)

Here’s the video tutorial:

It looks so cool and impressive, but I hope my video makes it seem a little bit easier!

What jewelry will you make with your caged bead?

  1. Can you also use this technique on undrilled irregular shaped beads and gemstones? I have boxes of undrilled your regular shaped gemstones that have been tumbled and would like to make jewelry out of it but have no idea how to cage on and make them look decent.
If not, do you have a tutorial for square shaped undrilled beads and gemstones?
If not can you make one?

    • Hi Tara,

I don’t think this process would work well for undrilled irregular shaped gemstones. I do have a tutorial for that in my Nature Jewelry Workshop: kimberliekohler.com/shop/eworkshops/nature-jewelry-eworkshop/

The tutorial is more for natural stones with bumps and edges and not specifically for square shaped gemstones, though. If you’re talking about smooth gemstones, I would not suggest that tutorial.

      Thanks for your comment.
      🙂 Kim
